Excursions

Studying abroad in Ireland offers plenty of fun and exciting excursions and activities planned for you once you arrive! These activities will help you learn about the vast history of Limerick and Ireland, as well as the culture.

Weekend/Day Trips

Adare

We will take a trip to the beautiful village of Adare.  This is only a short journey from the University.  The village has some beautiful 12th and 13th century churches and a 13th century Castle.  It also has some lovely thatched cottages to visit.  While visiting Adare we will sample some of the local food at a quaint family restaurant.  

Killarney

Located in the County of Kerry, Killarney is at the heart of the very beautiful and spectacular Southwest of Ireland.  Killarney town is surrounded by 26,000 acres of National Parkland, including three stunning lakes.  The climate in Killarney results in lush greenery, scenic landscapes and breath-taking views of nature’s paradise.  The students will go for a beautiful boat journey through the three Lakes of Killarney and a hike through the Gap of Dunloe.

Galway

Galway is one of the brightest and most intriguing jewels of the West of Ireland. The city is wild, bohemian and, at the same time, full of culture, artistry, exceptional food and music. As well as being a popular seaside destination with long sandy beaches, Galway is also a thriving and cosmopolitan city center. It is always a joy to explore with its wonderful cobbled streets, colorful shop facades, and its offbeat café/bar culture.

Local Life Activities

Limerick City Tour

Shortly after arriving in Limerick you will be brought on a walking tour of Limerick city where you will see the Georgian architecture as well as the medieval streets and buildings.  We will visit King John’s Castle which brings over 800 years of local history to life, King John's castle has a turbulent history  dating back to Viking times and has undergone several sieges, battles and triumphs over its long history. Afterwards, we'll visit Treaty City Brewery where we'll enjoy a tour of an artisan craft brewery located in the heart of the medieval quarter. We will experience a working brewery, learn about the history of brewing and the brewing process from experienced Master Brewers. We'll finish the night at The Locke Bar for dinner, followed by traditional Irish music dancing. 

Rugby Match

During the semester we will attend a rugby match in Thomond Park.  Rugby is such an important part of the culture of Limerick it is great to see what the excitement is all about.

Theatre

During the semester we will attend a cultural event to introduce students to the Limerick Arts scene.
