Welcome to
Ireland

Entry Requirements

Passports

First things first! You will need a passport that doesn’t expire too soon -- at a minimum it should last for 6 months after your anticipated return from your study abroad program. Apply or renew now if you need to!

Important: Make sure you sign your passport before travel, as it's not a valid document without your signature!

Visas and Permits to Stay

If you're studying in Ireland for a summer program that's less than 90 days, you don't need to worry about the registration process. All you need is a valid passport, and you're good to go!

For students studying in Ireland for a semester an Irish residence permit will be requested after your arrival. This means that you will need to schedule an appointment with the Immigration Officer. The process will be explained in detail during Orientation week, but please see below for some guidance in advance.

  • To book an appointment you first need to create an account, on the Digital Contact Centre.
  • Applicants are encouraged to book their appointment as soon as they have arrived in Ireland.
  • The documents that you will need for your immigration appointment to get an IRP (Irish Residence Permit) card are:
      • Valid Passport, Immigration Letter (you will be able to request it from the Student Portal during orientation).
      • Offer Letter (this was sent to you via email when you were first accepted on the Study Abroad Program).
      • Evidence of financial support: approx. €2,340 - If you are supporting yourself this can be a copy of up-to-date bank statements. We recommend bringing 6 months of bank statements if possible. Again, these need to be a hard copy printout. If your parents are supporting you financially, a notarised letter stating this. Again, this needs to be a hard copy printout.
      • Proof of Medical insurance – a hard copy printout of coverage letter/policy. (CISI insurance)
      • UL Student ID Card - you will get this at orientation
      • Proof of tuition fees paid for your programme (Karina will give you this)
      • Proof of your exam results. Please take a copy of your most recent transcript from your home university if this is easily available to you
      • Proof of address. You will get information on how to get this letter during orientation.
      • There is a fee of €300 for the immigration appointment. This payment is made, by you, when you attend your immigration appointment.
